Vocational Education Pathway for Ordination

Ordination Pathway 3: Vocational Education and Training

The completion of Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications consisting of a Certificate IV (500 hours), Diploma (800 hours), Advanced Diploma (1000 hours) and Graduate Certificate (550 hours) in theological or ministry studies from a Denominational or Partner College of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. It is expected that each VET qualification contain no more than nine individual subjects. Students taking the Vocational Education Pathway will complete more subjects than those required for Ordination in order to fulfil the volume of learning requirement. The total demand in learning hours is approximately 2850 hours.

  • Old Testament Introduction (Cert IV)
  • New Testament Introduction (Cert IV)
  • Biblical Interpretation/Exegesis (Diploma)
  • Old or New Testament Unit (Diploma)
  • Old Testament Unit (Advanced Diploma)
  • New Testament Unit (Advanced Diploma)

Church History (Minimum 100 hours)

  • Church History Survey (Cert IV)
  • Wesleyan History (Cert IV)

Theology (Minimum 500 hours)

  • Introduction to Theology (Cert IV)
  • Wesleyan Theology (Cert IV)
  • Theology Unit (Diploma)
  • Theology Unit (Advanced Diploma)
  • Theology Unit (Graduate Certificate)
  • Ethics or Apologetics (Graduate Certificate)

Practical Ministry (Minimum 850 hours)

  • Introductory to Preaching (Cert IV)
  • Theology and Practice of Worship (Cert IV)
  • Church Administration and Management (Cert IV)
  • Evangelism (Cert IV)
  • Spiritual Formation (Diploma)
  • Christian Leadership (Diploma)
  • Pastoral Care and Counselling (Diploma)

  • Introduction to Christian Education (Advanced Diploma)
